October 16-18, 2019

Anafim,and whole school activities:
On Wednesday we marched around the school fields singing all our Sukkot songs, while searching for the perfect scach for our playground sukkah. Each child came back with a branch and we collectively decorated our sukkah. We hung plastic bunches of grapes, pomegranates, autumn leaves and sunflowers. We held off on hanging our paper chains and lanterns because of the wind and rain - hopefully Friday will be clear and sunny. At lunch we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the big B’nai Jacob sukkah and were happy to see our decorations displayed.
Popular new activities on our classroom shelves this week include carrot peeling and slicing ( eating a few pieces and offering some to friends), color mixing, and transferring water with a sponge from one container to another.
With Simchat Torah approaching on Tuesday, ( the holiday marking the end of the Torah readings and winding back the scroll to begin again), some of the children are making their own 'Torah,'  depicting the story of Genesis ( creation of the world).
We are looking forward to Special Persons Visiting Day on Friday and can’t wait to share Shabbat in the Chapel and challah in our Sukkah with our guests.

As the cooler weather approaches, this is a good time to remind you to send in jackets ( and hats and gloves as necessary in the weeks ahead). In the interests of safety for all, we will be following the Ezra school delays and closings. You should all be included on the Ezra phone alerts and/or emails. Please follow these - no additional emails will be sent from the Montessori Preschool.

Garinim:
This week we continued with Sukkot and created our own sukkah, with leaves found outside and popsicle sticks. (We also included a picture of ourselves inside of it!). We created many decorations for our outdoor sukkah, including lulavim and etrogim, bingo stamping pomegranates, and a colored Torah. Many of our decorations are now hanging, and we invite you to visit the sukkah so you may see! We have been keeping within our holiday theme, and matching different kinds of fruit cards (English and Hebrew names are printed on the cards). On Thursday, we went to the chapel with the upper school and shook lulavim! We then were invited to a special Sukkot breakfast in the Ezra gymnasium (too wet and windy for the sukkah) where we had a Sukkot picnic that included a feast of bagels, fruit, cheese and juice! We enjoyed our food and then went back to our classroom while singing “To the Sukkah!”. We continued practicing our other Sukkot songs “Patesh Mahmer”, and “Let’s Build a Sukkah”. Books that we read this week were: “Sky High Sukkah”, “ Let’s Build a Sukkah”, Bubbe Isabella and the Sukkot Cake”, and “Is it Sukkot Yet?”. Friday is Special Person’s Day, and we look forward to sharing our day with all of our visitors! We have decided to add a Weather Man to our group time. This is a cutout of a person (about preschool size). Once completed, the children will be able to take turns “dressing” him in the correct clothing appropriate to what the weather is on that particular day. We cut out pants, sweater, tshirt, jacket, hat, scarf and mittens. We will add rain boots, rain jacket, and other clothing items that the children can think of as we practice this during our group time. If it is a cold day, the children can decide what he should be wearing. This will help the children in our class know and understand what they should put on before we head outside for our recess time.

Just a friendly reminder to start packing hats and mittens to keep in your child’s cubby as the weather has been unpredictable lately!
