This week in 7 and 8

This week Israel celebrated Yom HaAliyah, Immigration Day. So in Hebrew, we Zoomed with Jacob Wyner and Nathan Shecter to hear about their experience as new olim. Why did they move to Israel, what do they miss, how is it to speak Hebrew and of course about food.

This week in the 7-8 history class, we discussed what it might have been like to live in the 13 original colonies. We compared, for instance, the level of religious tolerance in Massachusetts versus that of its nearby neighbor, Rhode Island.

In Judaics, we analyzed and discussed a poem called ‘Binary’ in the book we are reading. It got extremely heated with students articulating their interpretations very thoughtfully!

In Language Arts, the class finished their poetry unit, concluding with the great free-verse poem by E.E. Cummings, "hist whist." Next they will be reading Arthur Miller's seminal play "The Crucible," which will teach them not only about the Puritans and the Salem Witch Trials in the 1690s, but also about McCarthyism in the 1950s.
