This Week in 7 and 8, June 3

This week we studied the beginning of the Civil War and how well the Confederate Army initially did against Union soldiers.  We ended the week with the great Union victory at Antietam and President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which was a turning point in the war, moving it to a “higher plain.”

We are now reading Slopes of War about the battle at Gettysburg; the 7th and 8th graders are being introduced to a number of real-life and fictional characters who illustrate the tragedy of war fought amongst fellow countrymen.

This week in music their individual compositions were due so we spent the class finishing those up and making sure all the correct details were there!
